The Journey Begins

Unfortunately, on August 1st I was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Fortunately, I have an incredible support network, health plan, and an attitude that won’t be beat.

I’ll be using this page to document my journey. Both as a means to journal my experiences, and also to keep my people (that’s you!) informed. I’ll be updating as often as I have things to share. It might not be daily, but I’m going to try.

So here’s the thing. Cancer blows. A lot. It’s scary as fuck. But I plan on showing it who’s boss (ME!) … and I’m going to do it with your help (and also the help of a bunch of hardcore medical professionals). I’m pretty awful at asking for help, but I’m going to use this experience to get REALLY good at it.

So, you want to help? (I hope you do, if not, what the heck are you reading this for?!) Here’s some ways you can help for now:

  1. Send your thoughts & prayers – seriously, this is one of the times when thoughts and prayers are an acceptable and totally appropriate response. You can comment, text, call, mail or just send them telepathically through the ionosphere – whatever your preferred method works for me!
  2. Send me jokes! I’m trying to have more “fortunately”s than “unfortunately”s in all of this, and humor definitely falls into the “fortunately” category. Bonus points for boob jokes and REALLY punny jokes.
  3. Keep reading (it’ll encourage me to keep writing)

Unfortunately, I have cancer. Fortunately, I have you. And together we’re going to kick this cancer’s ass.

Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter. — Izaak Walton
